I don’t know about you but, I believe in progressive development. Systems are not meant to stay the same forever. Neither can they sustain the same shape or form taken as it in the beginning. There’s a trend I see within hospitals. There are many individuals who fall “through the cracks” so to speak. These individuals might have severe substance use or, perhaps, they understand how to minimize symptoms say related to mental illness. What ends up occurring is a vicious cycle. The individual remains trapped into usage or de-compensation. Hospitalization occurs however, because the individual is not on the radar for any extreme behaviors, they are discharged. Then the cycle continues. It seems that, unless extreme enough, it is likely the patient is dismissed. Surely something has got to give. Maybe it is desensitization from the professionals end.

This says more about our medical system as a whole. How are staff treated? Is the system halting providers from in the long run, truly caring? I don’t blame it solely on providers as they too follow protocol. This post is a target for those in charge of constructing and facilitating programs within mental health and the medical system. Does the system truly care? If it did, why do so many fall through the cracks? Is it about profit vs. health? I implore you reader to think deeper. To ask the bigger questions. For, at the end of this life, we are all but a blip in the universe. We are to help and grow with each other. The further away from this we walk, the further we get from truly understanding life.
